Oak Bedroom Furniture, Past And Present, Has Always Been A Good Choice : light home furniture store

Oak Bedroom Furniture, Past And Present, Has Always Been A Good Choice
by Cordell Coleman
plug itOak bedroom furniture has been a staple in many homes for centuries. This rich, sturdy wood has been a favorite in England as far back as the 16th century. Oak bedroom furniture was once available only to the extremely wealthy. Oak was such a valuable and used wood that this period is sometimes referred to as the Oak Period by antique dealers. Master craftsmen have created works of art for the upper crust out of beautiful oak ornately carved and inlayed with mother of pearl or another type of wood usually in a darker color to add detail to the design that they have created. The craftsman would sign the finished furniture, and then brand the initials of the owner on the back of the piece. The furniture was considered a highly valuable piece of art. Fortunately, today oak bedroom furniture is available to the masses. Oak continues to be an expensive hardwood just like its cousins, mahogany and cherry. Veneers have been available for ages, but new technologies have improved the process providing the look for Oak for a price within anyone's budget. The finely crafted oak bedroom furniture that is now available is different from the variety that was previously used. In the past, the furniture was tailored to a few specific designs, however the selections currently on the market are vast. Styles still reflect the motif from the past, but have also incorporated new techniques and elements that have created a whole new world of oak bedroom furniture. Any décor is perfect for oak bedroom furniture in fact it is improved by its presence. The warm tones and beautiful grains of the wood and a sumptuous feel to your home. To discover the right piece for your home, you simply need to determine the style you want to achieve. For example, the Louise Phillipe set works well with a traditional style, but would also achieve the right touch for an exotic retreat. The dark wood will create a soothing mood for your boudoir. However, don't think that oak will not work in your contemporary bedroom. This is far from the case. The contemporary mission platform oak bedroom furniture is just the thing for a sleek modern look with just a touch of charm. This prevents the room from appearing too cold and stark. By placing the right color combinations, wood tones and furniture designs, you can create the look you've always wanted. Not all oak bedroom furniture is dark there are several stain options that are much lighter, such as natural and light. If the interior decoration you want to achieve is brighter and more modern, you may choose to incorporate the Bedford oak bedroom furniture into your room. This set has a stunning light oak finish with a very contemporary style. By coordinating it with a rich color, you can bring out the beauty of the wood. When decorating your home don't forget to include oak bedroom furniture into your guest bedroom as well. If your spare room is smaller or multi-use you might want to consider a daybed. Daybeds are not what they used to be. There are several lovely designs to choose from in different stains. The hand carved dark oak daybed will add a charming touch to your smaller room without skimping on style. By painting your room in light tones you will accentuate the beauty of your oak bedroom furniture and accentuate the stain creating an inviting hideaway for everyone in your family. Conversely, the light finish and camel back of the Coaster daybed will complement deep colors perfectly. If you prefer a vintage look, try mixing antiques you've collected with the solid back Coaster daybed with a medium oak finish. By pairing the new with the old and applying a faux finish to the walls for aging, your guests will be swept back in time. Whichever style of oak bedroom furniture you choose, the richness of the wood will welcome your visitors into your home; the only problem may be getting them to leave. If you are redecorating a child's room oak bedroom furniture is an excellent choice. It is very sturdy and attractive. You could use one of the sleigh beds and create a room fit for a princess with light walls and airy curtains, perfect for the little girl in your life. Then as your princess grows up, you can easily change the paint color and bedding to reflect a more sophisticated taste. Any of the available selection would fit perfectly into a child's décor, and by choosing a more traditional look rather than a passing fad; your little one's room can be easily updated with simple changes in paint color and bedding. For example, even the bunk beds, a favorite among the youngsters, can be converted to twin beds, when your children aren't youngsters anymore. While they are still children, choose a fun theme, like racecars for your little boys, and decorate their room accordingly, incorporate racing stripes, bedding and fun curtains. Then when they have grown out of racecars and bunk beds, you can change out the paint, bedding and curtains and create a grown up pad for your young men. Regardless, oak bedroom furniture is an option that will grow with your child. Don't be surprised, if it ends up in your child's first apartment. Oak bedroom furniture will add sophistication and drama to your master bedroom, guest bedroom or even your childrens bedroom. Choose the look you want to achieve and then select the oak bedroom furniture set that will compliment your décor. The main thing to remember is light paint colors work best with dark wood and deeper shades work best with lighter wood stains. You don't want your exquisite new set to be overpowered or lost in your wall color. Most importantly you want to be able to enjoy your new furniture for years to come.

Moroccan interior design, home decor and Moorish architecture : light home furniture store

Moroccan interior design, home decor and Moorish architecture
by David Calvin
plug itthe Moroccan home is a palace of the imagination and a poetic harmonizing between man and the natural world. Walls borrow their hues from the earth and desert sand - muted reds and honeyed yellows. Tedelakt, the ancient technique of rendering smooth waxed surfaces using a colored limestone paste and black soap, give walls and floors all the appearance of clay ceramic. Interior structuring takes on organic shapes. Bends and arches complement geometric zellige tiles and curvilinear vases, set with fresh roses from the garden. Floaty, gossamer curtains in place of doors give a pleasing open feeling to the living space, while allowing breezes to circulate freely.
The Moroccan home is a unique blend of African, Berber, and Islamic aesthetics. Plush cushions in richly textured fabrics are set upon carved ebony-stained pine and cedar moucharabi furniture. Casting the afternoon sunlight in abstract patterns are pierced metal and brass lamps standing on tables or hanging overhead. Seating, tables, and accessories throughout the home are patterned and shaped by beautifully crafted hexagonal, octagonal and arched forms. The total effect is a private visual playground and a welcoming museum-like showland that is at once masterful and inviting.

The scents of cedar and roses eddy with the aroma of lamb and apricots. Guests have arrived with a tap-tapping of a brass knocker on a heavy wooden door. The setting sun fires the purple-pink of jasmine and bougainvillea in the garden outside, as Tajine simmers a last few minutes in the oven. Domestic architecture in Morocco varies greatly according to regional climate and personal wealth. There are the simple stucco constructions of the poorer townsfolk, and there are villas of such magnificence as to lure the wandering soul across several continents for the mere occasion to stand enchanted outside their gates.

In Moroccan homes irrespective of means the blind indented arch is a most charming feature, one whose inspiration is taken directly from the mihrab, or prayer niche constructed on the qibla wall of the mosque. The interior courtyard, or riad, is another characteristic element of Moroccan architecture and of Islamic architecture in general.

Situated most often at the center of the home, the riad is a tool for privacy and practicality. Since often the main door off the street opens onto the courtyard, visitors are directed from the patio into a salon used especially for entertaining - and this without ever passing through other the living areas of the home. The riad allows for plenty of light and needed shade, since the sun's rays and also cooler air can permeate the whole of the dwelling, while at the same time the harsher elements of wind and direct sunlight are kept out.

Interior decor is essential to Islamic architecture. Vaults, cupolas, and arched doorways are principle features which serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. In some village homes, recessed walls and benches set in cement stucco offer simple detail.

More elaborate elements may include geometric and floral motifs carved into wood beams or plaster walls. Ceramic tile, known as zellige, is also used, and may be applied to any and all surfaces, and not limited to walls, floors, roofs, and ceilings. Creative and surprising patterns, molded organic materials, and the intriguing lines of Moroccan structural motifs make the Moroccan home an extraordinary visual playground. Imagine coming home after a long day's work and slipping into a living room oasis where you're bathed in soft reds, yellows and oranges while resting on a plush cushion, next to a set of mini palm trees, breathing in the scent of Jasmine incense, listening to light jazz flutes. Selecting Moroccan furniture isn't just about functionality anymore; it's about creating a comfortable habitat where you can relax, de-stress and enjoy your downtime.

Finding the right lighting is the key to creating an ideal atmosphere. As early as 5,000 BC, the Chinese have been building homes in correlation with the sun to provide optimal light, warmth and energy. Historically, Morocco has hosted groups of diverse people from all directions - Phoenicians and Carthaginians from the East, Sub-Saharan Africans from the South, in addition to Romans, Vandals and Andalusians from the North. This Diaspora of culture comes together and can be clearly seen in these colorful Moroccan lamps and lanterns.

What makes Moroccan lamps truly unique is that they're not mass-produced in a sterile factory -- but rather, each shade is made of sheep or goatskin and is then dyed and stretched over a solid iron frame, where it is hand-painted with a needle in brilliant colors, in the decorative tradition of Henna tattoo artistry. Dating back to the Bronze Age, Henna design mimics the Henna plant, which has a plethora of long, thin stalks and tiny blossoms. Much like the tattoos, the lamp designs showcase fluid black lines and shapes, outlined by tiny dots.

Moroccan lamps, varying in shape, size, color and mood offer the opportunity to turn your living room into a stunning art museum. The African Berbers were primarily an agricultural people, so the curved "Berber" floor lamp is painted with a classy, simple style in neutral colors. Tall, slender styles like "The Pharaoh's Light", "Red Sun" or "Orange Magical Arabian Nights" capture one's imagination, while dazzling with dancing patterns, vibrant colors and swaths of vacuous space that instinctively pulls the eyes toward it in wonderment. End table lamps like "African Sun" or "Fez Sun" provide multifunctional use, emanating a soothing glow, while the glass top holds a piece of art, a plant or a tea set for entertaining guests. When you behold a piece like "Ocean Sun," breathing moonlight into the room with its purple hues and oceanic design, you know that this lamp is not just for providing light, but is a piece of art that will compliment other furniture and themes in the room.

Moroccan lanterns made of stained glass resemble the sort of Church decor that pervades the Holy Land. The shapes range from a rounded hot air balloon design, to a diamond-shaped street lantern style and they can be hung from the ceiling or mounted on the wall. Traditionally, the stained glass panes are subtle, soothing colors - an olive green, a periwinkle blue or a hint of gold. Handmade and framed in black wrought iron, Moroccan lanterns can bring that one unforgettable, warm summer night into your home.

Moroccan lamps and Moroccan lanterns will add an air of magic to any room. When paired with Moroccan rugs, plants and other Moroccan furniture, these handmade Moroccan lights really put the finishing touches on a relaxing, unique escape.

Been Bags: A Sophisticated Addition to Home Decor Items : light home furniture store

Been Bags: A Sophisticated Addition to Home Decor Items
by pattrickjhonson
plug itBean bag is a new and stylish piece of furniture that has gained a lot of popularity in recent times and has become a part of many homes. Initially, it was also called as Physics Bag or Oversized Sac and it was conceived between late 1960s and early 1970s. The initial design of a bean bag was pear shaped and it included a head rest. In the early days, the material used was leather but later on manufacturers used vinyl.
The fabric of a bean bag is filled in with foam called polystyrene or pellets of PVC. These pellets are super light and this makes it easy for this furniture piece to be moved around in the house or even outside. The original form of Polystyrene is sugar form and it is expanded into its required form by blowing steam into the sugar. These days manufacturers have also started using thermocol pellets to fill in the bags. Bean Bags now come in a variety of shapes and sizes and interesting colors as well.

They usually cost anywhere between under US$100 to up to US$300. This piece of furniture can be extremely comfortable to curl up in and just relax as usually it easily takes the shape of the human body whenever anyone sits in it. It offers a lot of room for an individual and so can be quite ideal and extremely comfortable for children, pregnant women and other adults in the house. People with back problems are often advised to use bean bags.

The pellets filled in these bags typically have a life of one year or a little more than that. Once the pellets get crushed then the bag may lose its shape and comfort. But the way to resolve this issue is just to fill in the bag again with fresh pellets from the nearest utility shop. For modern apartments it is best to buy darker colored bags. These can withstand most things including spillage as the fabric is quite strong. The way to take care of your bean bags is to remove the outer cover and wash it if it is water resistant. The liner will stop the beans from spilling, if the cover is removed. Another way to clean it would be to wipe it with a wet cloth. For longevity of a bean bag, it is important to keep it at a safe distance from the fireplace or heaters and also from sharp objects.

Sleigh Bedroom Furniture - An Option For Young And Old Alike : light home furniture store

Sleigh Bedroom Furniture - An Option For Young And Old Alike
by Cordell Coleman
plug itSleigh bedrooms are the perfect solution for your personal space. They are versatile and attractive, and available in a surprising variety of styles. Of course beds, play are a vital role in your bedroom redo, and all beds have come along way since their beginnings, and they are continuing to evolve as a result of developing new styles, one example is the sleigh bedroom.
In ancient Greece, beds were crude structures of wood available only to the very wealthy and royalty, and definitely not the most comfortable items around. In many cases, the bed was more of a status symbol, because pallets of straw on the floor were often a more restful place to sleep. Unfortunately, for the people of Greece, the sleigh bedroom was not available, but things did begin to improve, and during the Renaissance age was born a time of lavish beds with extremely ornate woods and massive sizes. The mattresses had evolved as well into what was commonly referred to as a "feather tick", which was basically an oversized pillow, a very cozy alternative to the straw mattresses that preceded it. The only problem with the feather tick was the need to refill and clean it out. This was an enormous task consisting of removing all of the feathers and re-stuffing it, as you can imagine this was a very messy process. The Renaissance bed's where a stark contrast from the early settler's beds living in the New World in very small quarters sometimes encompassing only one room. The small quarters required very compact beds to fit in their homes. In fact, some of the beds used could be folded away or stored with pulleys to provide more living space during the day.

Fortunately, the selection for boudoir furniture, including the sleigh bedroom has increased dramatically since the early days, and our bedrooms have increased to unheard of proportions. The expansion of our homes, especially the master bedroom, affords the perfect scenario for creating an oasis in your own private room.

Sleigh bedrooms are an excellent solution for anyone who enjoys redecorating. The style of the bed with its sleigh shape and high headboard and low footboard adorned with graceful curves is perfectly suited to many decors. Because sleigh bedrooms are so versatile, you can revamp your room without the costly expense of purchasing new furniture.

You might be surprised to discover that the sleigh bedroom is available in more than just wood; they are also available in metal, including brass. In addition, the wood stains range from very dark to very light. The styles are just as vast from modern to antique reproduction. In fact, the same bed with the same stain could easily move from one extreme to the other seamlessly.

For instance, contemporary sleigh bedroom combined with sleek curtains, and accented with simple black or chrome lamps with clean lines and additional black, chrome or red accessories will create a very contemporary bedroom. Add modern art to your space with vibrant colors within your color palette containing varied shapes to complete the look. This same sleigh bedroom placed in a decor with rich colors, beloved family heirlooms and treasured antiques will make an amazing statement of the past, flowing perfectly from old to new.

In the same way a cottage sleigh bedroom would work in a country cottage room, filled with fresh flowers, traditional brightly colored quilts and quaint baubles; it would also work just as well in a beach themed room with light blue or green walls and sheer curtains and crisp linens. Decorate the walls with black and white photos of fishing villages or boats to provide a more modern take to the traditional theme.

It is the versatility that has made the sleigh bedroom so popular. Since the mid-19th century it has become one of the most popular styles, especially in America. This may be attributed to the surge in home improvers, who enjoy redecorating their space, and appreciate the furniture for its ability to work with so many decors.

Because the sleigh bedroom is available in some many styles, there are looks that are more suited to a particular venue. The Diana sleigh bedroom for example is best suited for a French country or vintage style. To achieve a French country room is very simple use a simple color on your walls, such as a light blue or green, then choose two additional coordinating colors in a lighter and a darker shade for accents. Toile is a standard in any French country room, try placing toile curtains or toile bedding in your bedroom. Accessories should be kept to a minimum and be simple in nature. For additional character to the room try stenciling a border of fleur-de-lis along the walls of your room.

Incorporating a sleigh bedroom into your child's room, a guest room or even a lake house is the perfect way to add elegance and charm. The lines of the furniture evoke richness, without being ostentatious. In fact, during the holidays a sleigh bedroom is perfect addition to complete your winter retreat, just through a throw that evokes the festive season onto your new bed and watch the children gather round looking for Kris Kringle.

Whichever model you choose you can be sure of the craftsmanship and beauty in your new furniture, and whether your décor is contemporary or country or changes from day to day, there is a perfect sleigh bedroom to fit your needs, so enjoy the fun of happy decorating for years.

Master Bedroom Furniture - Be The Master Of Your Domain : light home furniture store

Master Bedroom Furniture - Be The Master Of Your Domain
by Cordell Coleman
plug itA master bedroom should be a reflection of your ideal retreat. This is the one space in your home that is truly yours and should be considered as such. Don't allow your master bedroom to be overrun by your children's toys or the work that you bring home from the office. Rather enable this space to become a serene, tranquil environment for you to escape to, when you need a quiet moment to regroup.
When you are decorating your master bedroom, think back to a time or place where you have truly felt at peace. Whether it was a wonderful vacation that you and your loved one experienced together or an activity that you both share, such as yoga, use this as your base for your design, as long as you will both be enveloped by peace and harmony. Just as when you decorate any room in your home you want to employ your personality. No other room in your home is more important to be a reflection of your personality than your master bedroom. Be sure to include your partner in the design process of your master bedroom, because it should be a true reflection of you both. Each of you should feel just as at peace in the room as the other. You may even be surprised by your partner's enthusiasm of decorating your master bedroom suite, as this is a room that you both spend the majority of your time in.

There was a time when a master bedroom was primarily a reflection of the female's design tastes. Thankfully, that is no longer the case. Males want to have just as much of an input as females do in the decorating process of the master bedroom. This does not necessarily have to be a fully masculine room, but rather a combination of both the feminine and masculine tastes finding a wonderful cohesion between the two different style aspects. When you incorporate both of your style tastes, this can produce an amazing master bedroom suite both can enjoy and relish, allowing each of you to find comfort and peace. Enabling your master bedroom to become a sanctuary that you may never want to leave.

Once you have chosen your ideal theme to decorate your master bedroom, your next step is to choose a color pallet that best reflects your chosen theme. When choosing your color pallet for your master bedroom, make sure to choose at minimum of three different colors, you can even employ as many as four colors. There was a time we had to adhere to strict design rules, which included the limitation of your color pallet to only two colors. Thankfully, we no longer have these design constraints. Choose colors that are not only going to coordinate with your design theme, but will incorporate a soothing pallet that both of you will enjoy. Do make sure to have a range of colors spanning from light to dark. If you're choosing to utilize three colors, then you want to have light, medium, and dark tones of your color pallet. When choosing to have four colors then you will want to have two medium colors within your color pallet. This is primarily the rule of thumb for decorating any space in your home.

Your master bedroom should include furniture that offers clean lines that will coordinate into your chosen theme. The furniture finishes you choose for your bedroom should be easy on your eye as well as being highlighted by your color pallet. You also want to incorporate furniture pieces that offer enough drawer space or hidden shelves, to be able to contain and hide the clutter that resides in your master bedroom suite. The reasoning behind this design goal is that it has been shown in scientific studies that limiting the clutter in your space will enable you to have a peaceful night's sleep, which everyone needs. This is one design goal that you will want to incorporate throughout your home not only in your master bedroom suite. Forward thinking designers have realized the need to design space in a clean and efficient manner, therefore manufacturers have taken heed of this design aspect and have produced bedroom furniture adhering to this decorating initiative.

Today, we have so many different furniture options that it can be a daunting task especially when you are purchasing such big-ticket item such as your bedroom furniture. Therefore, you want to ensure that you have your design theme in place prior to purchasing such items. Your theme will not only affect the style of furniture, but also the stain. For example, rich dark stains work best with lighter color walls, while light stains are more compatible with a darker wall color. You want to enhance your furniture and not lose it in your walls. Some furniture is more flexible than others. If you tend to revamp your space often, you might want to consider a more neutral style. To determine a piece that will work, picture it in many different decors, such as vintage, modern or traditional. Ask yourself "does this furniture pieces fit into your design image or does it stick out like a sore thumb?" If you can easily place the style into many decors, this is the choice for you.

Regardless of your style preference you can create a master bedroom that will become your own personal oasis from the stresses of life, by simply incorporating simple design elements, rich wood furniture, and sumptuous fabrics. You will have your own vacation retreat, only a few steps away, and the best part is it's free.

What You Need to Know About Modern Furniture Reproductions

What You Need to Know About Modern Furniture Reproductions
by Seb Perez
Being a fan of modern design for about a decade- I’ve come across different perspectives on this issue of the reproduction. Personally, I feel that If I had the discretionary cash-such as if I had a net worth of over $1M, I would buy mostly originals (unless I had young children). I’ve heard some designers and corporate execs from design manufacturing firms argue that the “licensed” versions are the “true investment which will maintain and appreciate in value. They’ve argued, somewhat ridiculously I believe if you can’t afford the licensed version-then don’t but it at all. How preposterous-especially for those of us who are not pulling a corporate exec’s salary! Here’s my take on the investment issue.
The investment perspective: If you have the disposable cash to pay $2,200 for an Arco Lamp-it might be a wise investment. Maybe. It’s generally accepted that paying extra for a licensed copy will continue to appreciate in value. There is truth to this but I like to dig a little deeper since this is considered to be one of the main reasons why I should “invest” in a licensed reproduction rather than a copy. It is true that the original will likely appreciate over time however at first, just like a new car driven off the lot, its value will drop. In other words, the same lamp you just bought for $2,200 ($2,354 with 7% sales tax), if you turned around and sold it on eBay-you might get $1,700 for it. A loss of $654-a 27% loss and not a very good return on your investment. Thankfully however, it will rise in value after that initial drop at the approximate rate of inflation all other factors such as supply and demand remaining equal. At a 7% inflation rate, it would take almost 4 years to recover your initial cost. However, wouldn’t the same rate of inflation apply to any asset maintained in good condition and still in demand such as my Arco reproduction purchased for $499? Wouldn’t the savings I realized also appreciate at the same rate in my IRA?
I own reproductions that look fantastic and getting “ewws” and “ahhs” from friends and family for years. My “Nelson Bench” is still holding up my 100lb Plasma TV, my “Saarinen” Marble top table is still an eye-candy for my eyes and a nice place to eat on as well. The ebony finish is still on the base and the glass is still in one piece on my “Noguchi” coffee table. My “Arco” lamp is still lighting my workspace as I write this-and I haven’t so much as needed to change the bulb yet. The combined money I saved by buying good quality reproductions (several thousand dollars by my estimate) is still in my bank earning me interest (actually I probably spent it on my last trip to Cancun) instead of paying some high salary corporate exec (these designers aren’t around anymore). It’s a personal choice but, I ask myself would most buyers really feel better knowing that only a mere 7% of their $8,000 investment in their sofa went to the actual material/labor of a product, while the other 93% went to the licensee's yacht payment -- all for the sake of loyalty? And, if the quantifiable differences between licensed and non-licensed products are marginal, (which in some instances, they probably are, not to mention the cases where the unlicensed versions trump the licensed versions), to what then does a buyer owe his loyalty? It's a fair question, at least in some cases.
Don’t get me wrong, I sincerely appreciate their contribution to art and design but, nowadays I’m more concerned with whether the Phillips light bulb I buy will give me what I’m looking for at a price I like than whether Thomas Edison is still getting his share of proceeds. All the patents on their designs have expired and the actual designs of most pieces are now in the hands of the public domain. The “Cons”: Selling “unlicensed” reproductions off as “licensed”. I personally despise dishonest salespeople proportionate to the amount of damage their lies can do. For example, if I buy a “widget” at an electronics store and the guy told me the batteries were included-and I get home and they’re not-I’m pissed but I’ll get over it, maybe even still buy from their store if it conveniences me. However, if a doctor tells me or leads me to believe that surgery will alleviate the pain in my knee and after the surgery, the limping and the rehab-it still hurts- then I REALLY feel betrayed, angry and violated (sorry I’m getting a little of topic). Point is that I personally don’t condone any dishonesty in this industry. Most of the people that I meet that have a mutual affinity towards MCM (mid-century modern), know all about the licensed and unlicensed reproductions. Every customer I’ve ever dealt with knew they were buying a reproduction. I suspect there are dealers who may be selling the fakes off as originals but, personally I think the line is pretty clear between the two. In addition to the occasional dishonest dealer posing fakes as authentic there is the bigger issue of the varying quality and materials being used in unlicensed reproduction:
Quality variation: The variance of quality with the unlicensed reproduction is undoubtedly a subject of considerable concern since not all reproductions are created equal. This is why the franchise principal is so successful- you always know what you’re going to get even if it’s a nutritionally void 2,000 calorie burger or a ridiculously over-priced cup of coffee. At least you know what you’re gonna get and you can depend on that. People like that and are willing to pay for it. When you buy a licensed reproduction-you know what you’re gonna get- at least most of the time. However, once you step out of the fancy Designer Furniture stores and decide to buy a more affordable unlicensed reproduction-it’s no longer a sure thing as to what you’re going to wind up with. I’ve come to find that there are good reproductions and poor ones just as there are unscrupulous dealers and those with integrity and good decent knowledgeable service. I have found reproductions of an “egg” chair that had its upholstery start to unglue itself, the legs broke off and the foam core deformed easily. Other items may be lopsided and something is skewed, the measurements are off, the material choices are poor quality, the steel rusts, the fabric tears, the plywood shows saw marks on the wood. I have seen other reproductions that are virtually unidentifiable from the licensed version and will maintain their look and feel for many years to come. In my opinion, it is of critical importance when considering the purchase of an unlicensed reproduction to carefully inspect personally (or by knowledgeable friend) the quality of the stitching, the symmetry of the lines from 360 degrees, the quality of the steel and all other materials used, the reputation of the dealer (you should always check the betterbusinessbureau.com for complaints) to name a few. I believe with a little know how and caution, you can find the look you’re after without having to break the bank. You don’t have to be made of money anymore to have a great looking home. I hope that you consider our reproductions in your quest to decorate your home with affordable Mid-Century Modern Classics.

Contemporary Lighting

Contemporary Lighting
by Russell Neal
There are those who wish that art were more like life, and others who wish that life itself were art. In the world of furnishing and décor, contemporary lighting and design tend more toward the latter than the former. This is because any contemporary aesthetic, be it artistic, decorative, or luminary, tends to blur the boundaries between the subjective and the objective for the purposes of questioning absolutes and establishing identity on an exclusively existential foundation.
Traditional design relies heavily upon conventional form, arrangement, and illumination to establish aesthetic and tone. Contemporary lighting and design, on the other hand, tend to strip forms down to their raw elements, examining both the multitudinous and the singular through the naked absolutes of primary colors and geometric shapes.
Contemporary design has a sense of class and style uniquely its own. Through minimalism and differentiation, it is able to point toward the universal and absolute in an "open-ended" manner, suggesting the possibility of Universal absolutes such as unity and symmetry, but never conclusively or dogmatically asserting their ultimate existence.
From the observer's perspective in a room filled with contemporary furnishings, lighting is the only Universal absolute that can be confirmed as a tangible reality, and in some decorative schemes, the only truly unifying factor in an otherwise disjointed array of shapes, sizes, and colors that speak so strongly of themselves that their only commonality is the light that shines upon them.
Metaphorically, then, we can think of contemporary furniture as art, and contemporary accent light as the visual tour guide that leads the eye through a quantum landscape of stark individuation and divergence. It is the lighting designer's primary purpose to find points within this landscape that can function as connecting points-- landmarks, if you will-- that bring the various elements together.
Objects such as furniture, sculptures, lamps, and other decorations in a contemporary home often represent a form of art that either compliments wall art and sculpture, or in some instances, replaces them altogether.
Abstract pieces and full-wall murals sometimes highlight walls in contemporary living rooms and dens, and these elements require additional, special fine art lighting that will define their essence and balance their individual presentations with furnishings and interior architecture.
Contemporary art light manufacturing requires a great deal of attention to fixture style and to angle of incident. Fixtures themselves must either look like contemporary elements themselves, or they must conceal their own presence and illuminate decorative pieces with what appears to be sourceless light.
The following summaries represent a few of the major categories of contemporary lighting fixtures and some of the more common applications for which they are used.
Wall Lighting
Sconces are found in many lighting design themes. Virtually every aesthetic genre uses them to illuminate hallways and outdoor walkways.
Contemporary sconces appear very different than their traditional counterparts. They tend to be very futuristic in physical design and are often tied to user-friendly dimmer switches that allow people to adjust the light quickly and easily.
Floor Lighting
Floor lighting is another major element of any indoor lighting design and is frequently tied to task. Floor lamps provide everything from reading light to lighting that facilitates movement and work.
Contemporary floor lighting unites task with the abstract by heavily relying upon the lamps themselves as decorative fixtures. It is not uncommon to find highly avant-garde lamps in a contemporary den or living room that add both a unique sense of form, but sometimes even a very unique and warm sense of color to the scheme.
Ceiling Pendant Lights
Formal and traditional ceiling lighting often relies on chandeliers to create a sense of elegance and class.
In contemporary lighting, pendant lights are more highly favored as either futuristic pieces or abstract elements that add a touch of the avant-garde to the top of the room.
Pendants come in a tremendous range of shapes, sizes, and finishes. Like floor lamps, pendants lights can often create focal points within a contemporary theme simply by virtue of physical presence and position.
Pendant lights add dimension to contemporary design by making larger furnishings such as tables and desks stand out. They can also be used as centralizing forces that concentrates a down light in the center of the room and unite wall and floor lighting with something akin to a latticework effect.
Recessed Ceiling Lights
Like pendant lights, these fixtures mount in the ceiling. Unlike pendant lights, they can be aimed at different angles for pinpoint directional accent lighting and wall art lighting.
Some recessed projector lights can be rotated a full 360 degrees, and they can be used to accent photography collections and hanging prints, abstract designs, and some sculpture.
They are limited in two major respects, however, that make them less than ideal for use as art lights.
For one thing, they produce UV light that can damage oils and canvases.
Secondly, while recessed lights allow for directional adjustment, they do not allow for precision adjustments of the light beams themselves. This limits their ability to produce ambient and special lighting effects.
For such requirements, art projectors provide a much better source of contemporary art lighting.
Art Projectors
Art projectors have a wonderful way of seamlessly integrating into any type of lighting design. Often used in a formal gallery or as recessed picture light, they can also be used to provide a clean and hidden approach to contemporary lighting.
In addition to precision adjustments that allow the user to set lighting levels and beam spread, art projectors such as the Phantom Contour provide filtered lighting free from UV and Infrared wavelengths that can damage art.
They can be used to illuminate everything from black and white photography to abstract three-dimensional sculpture.
Because the light appears sourceless, objects, paintings, prints, and photos appear to magically glow with their own light.
Strip Lights
Accent lighting plays an important role in contemporary lighting design, as it does in almost all decorative lighting genres.
Strip lights provide an excellent source of sourceless accent lighting that can compliment interior architecture, coves, cabinets, and furniture.
Cove mounted strip lights can follow the unique curves in vaulted ceilings and custom interior architecture.
In-cabinet strips can add illumination from within to collectible cases and bookshelves.
Under cabinet lighting strips can hide themselves beneath a cabinet surface, but illuminate contemporary furnishings below with sourceless accent lighting.
Regardless of their actual position, hidden linear lights introduce a floating effect that accentuates contemporary furnishings with subtlety and sophistication.

Contemporary Bedroom Furniture - Perfect For Bachelor Pads

Contemporary Bedroom Furniture - Perfect For Bachelor Pads
by Jesse Akre
There are two types of bachelor pads, those of men who want to stay single and those of men who would like to land the perfect special someone. For the men who want to remain single, this article is not going to help. But, for those who are ready to create a bachelor pad that will endear them to the ladies, read on.
For the most part, bachelor pads are though of as a place where boys are going to play, not really show off their best side. These are like overgrown game rooms with a bed and a refrigerator somewhere in the area. While you don't have to change the whole look, you should at least have one room in the pad that means business and seems grown up. It's the bedroom.
Head into your bedroom and look around. This is one room in the house that doesn't get enough attention, unless someone is coming over. Then there is the rush to push all the dirty clothes in the closet, close the drawers and try to dust things off. But, you're not covering up the horrible mismatched furniture.
It's time to do a little shopping. One of the most popular styles on the market is contemporary bedroom furniture. This is a furniture style that is definitely masculine. Characterized by strong lines, black lacquer, chrome, and other masculine colors, and even a little bit of a mechanical look, it's right up the decor alley for guys. At the same time, contemporary bedroom furniture is a hit with women because all the stars are using it. So, the purchase of contemporary bedroom furniture is a win-win for you.
One key to contemporary bedroom furniture is that you don't have to have a million pieces, like in many other bedroom furniture sets. Instead, when you are purchasing contemporary bedroom furniture you should think 'less is more', as this is the philosophy for this style of décor.
How great to not have to have all kinds of accent pieces, as most women would choose. If they say the space is too open, you can mention that contemporary bedroom furniture is meant to be that way, as it's all about space and being functional, not 'pretty'. She'll likely be impressed at your home décor knowledge.
For the most part, bedroom furniture consists of a bed, nightstand, and dresser. You could get a second dresser and nightstand if you want a little bit larger of a set. There are no fancy wood-carvings on contemporary bedroom furniture. Instead, you are looking for mahogany, black lacquer, chrome, iron, and other very strong, well defined pieces that don't need decorative fanfare.
Accenting for contemporary furniture is minimalist. You may want a floor lamp or table lamp on your nightstand. These, too, will be simple, a chrome or black lamp will do the trick nicely.
Don't forget the bedding. Stick with the modern theme, not the old blanket you've had since college. It's time to purchase a bedding set, that goes with the décor you have created, to complete the look.
While many men think home décor is a feminine art, you can create your own masculine getaway that is the top of fashion trends with the help of contemporary bedroom furniture.

Picking the Right Home Theater Service Designer : Home Garden furniture store shopping sale online

Picking the Right Home Theater Service Designer
by Mark McClean

plug itHome theaters are growing in popularity each year but for most people who want to purchase a good system, they simply don't know where to begin. Luckily like every other area of our modern society today you can hire a home theater design service to help guide your decision. Home theater designers work at showrooms that sell home theater systems and help clients select the proper system that will best suit their lifestyle and budget. Not all services are equal though, and there are certain options that you should be aware of when choosing a home theater designer to help you construct your home theater.
Room Analysis - a good home theater designer should have an option in their service where they either take down the dimensions of the room you are going to use to house your system and/or they should offer a preliminary house call where they can size up your room themselves. This allows them to choose components that are neither too large nor too small for your theater needs.

System Customization - aside from choosing a system that is the proper fit for the room you want to house your home theater in, a good home theater designer should offer personal customization options that allow you to add or remove equipment based upon your personal tastes. Naturally, this customization options should allow you to manage your budget by adjusting the overall price.

Support Equipment Availability - apart from the actual audio and video components for your home theater, a good designer will take into account accessory components for your theater. This includes things like static guards, acoustic tiling, cabinets, and even furniture, anything that will enhance your overall home theater experience.

Acoustics and Lighting Advice - a home theater should have lighting that doesn't disrupt viewing ability, so that the glare from light won't reflect off the television screen. It should also be set up with proper acoustics that prevents outside noise from entering the room, as well as minimizing echoes within the room. A good designer will take these facts into consideration and offer both advice and help in modifying your home theater along these lines.

Budgeting Advice - naturally, the bottom line for any designer is to make a sale. Because of this, try to analyze the advice your designer is giving you. A good designer will have your best interests at heart, and offer options that either minimizes costs for you or pace your payments at a tolerable rate. A good home theater designer is looking to create a base of happy customers to do his advertising for him. If you discover that every bit of advice the designer gives you raises your bill, you might be getting gouged for cash. This is a sure sign the designer is thinking about his bottom line, not yours, and should not someone you want to do business with.

After Sales Support - lastly, see if the designer offers any helpful options after closing the sale. This can include extended warranties on equipment, service packages, and other helpful little bits that let you know you can ask for assistance if things blow up later.

If your life is full and you know little to nothing about the latest in home theater systems, calling a home theater designer is a smart move. This is a large investment and a good designer will help you make sure every dollar you spend is used to the fullest.

Save Money on Furniture Buying at Auctions : Home Garden furniture store shopping sale online

Save Money on Furniture Buying at Auctions : Home Garden furniture store shopping sale online

Save Money on Furniture Buying at Auctions
by Ryan Page

plug itWhile online auctions are quickly dominating the marketplace, real and in-person auctions are still the place to go for large ticket items like furniture. By allowing buyers to examine the merchandise up close and take the furniture with them when they leave, furniture auctions are a great way to pick up fantastic pieces for your home. Keep reading if you want to learn how to save money on furniture by buying at auctions.
1. Find the Right Auction for You

If you're looking for deals on a comfy couch set for your recreation room, you don't need to attend a Christie's antique auction. Part of the secret to auction success is finding the right auction for you. Check your local newspapers' classified ads for estate sales and foreclosure auctions that fit your needs.

Become familiar with the local auctioneers in your area and ask to be included on any newsletters or email mailing lists that they send out. If you're interested in a particular style or brand of furniture, let them know so they can keep you informed.

2. Call Ahead and Research

Before you even go to the auction site, call ahead and see if a product catalog is available. This book will list each item along with a description, the starting price and possibly a picture. Staple a piece of paper to the back to write notes and take down the item numbers of pieces that interest you.

3. Get to the Viewing

Leave enough time at the viewing to properly look at and inspect each item that has caught your eye. While auction furniture tends to be in good shape, the quality is never guaranteed. Do a quick sweep of the stock and then a more thorough investigation of any furniture pieces for which you hope to place a bid.

4. Stick to your Budget

It can be very easy to go over budget in the high-anxiety and high-energy environment of an auction. Before you even step foot into the viewing area, set a budget for yourself and stick to it. If you don't think you can trust yourself in such an environment, ask a friend to come along to keep you in line.

5. Have Transportation on Hand

If you're planning to make a big purchase, be ready at the end of the day with a vehicle that has sufficient cargo space. Most auctioneers will only hold an item for so long before they start charging storage fees.

Make space for double bed in bedroom : Home Garden furniture store shopping sale online

Make space for double bed in bedroom : Home Garden furniture store shopping sale online

Make space for double bed in bedroom
by Jessica Thomson

plug itIt is very true to say that in an interior of home, furniture acquires a chief role in consideration of comfort qualities. Furniture is the primary fixation that we notice. A room without any furniture has no meaning to it.
If we think of the bedrooms, then Double Bed is the main object that acquires maximum space. If we take away the double bed from the room, it instantly starts looking spacious and bigger.

For many of you, the space in your room might not be sufficient to fit in the double bed properly or even if it fits in, the moving space would be very less and insufficient. Here are some tips that might work in creating space for the double bed in your room.

Instead of buying a full sized double bed, you can always choose a platform bed. A platform bed is the one, which is lesser in height as compared to full sized bed. It would help in creating more space in the room.

In case you are shorter in height and do not require a full sized bed, you can get the bed made on special order fitting to your requirement. This would help in avoiding the wastage of space by reducing the size of the bed.

Colors also play a major role in the spacing of your room. Cream colors and the hues of blue are one of the best combinations that make a tiny room appear bigger in size. Similarly a combination of yellow and white helps in making the room appear more spacious.

Avoid unwanted furniture in the room. A room flooded with too much furniture looks cramped and also suck up a lot of space. By moving extra furniture from the room will open spaces for the double bed to fit in.

Try to use multipurpose furniture in the room to create space in the room like sofa beds, chest with drawer, Beds having storage option, a chest that can serve as a coffee table, folding tables etc.

Large piece of furniture must be placed against the walls to avoid breaking of space in the middle.

Avoid oversized and whopping furniture in the room. They unnecessarily take extra space without serving any purpose. Rather go for small and sleek furniture that doesn't take much space in the room and also look settled.

Lastly, keep the room organized. Having too much of stuff in the room takes space and also make it look crowded. Arrange things in such a manner that makes the room appear organized.

Garden Design - Creating A Natural Garden In A Small Space : Artificial Flower-Plants store shopping sale online

Garden Design - Creating A Natural Garden In A Small Space : Artificial Flower-Plants store shopping sale online

Garden Design - Creating A Natural Garden In A Small Space
by Jonathan Yaakobi

Most people who own their own garden do so at least in part, because they want a touch of nature in their backyard, as way of relief from the glass, concrete and asphalt of urban life. Is it possible though, within the confines of a town or suburb plot, to develop a "natural retreat" in a space that is inevitably artificial and manipulated? The short answer has to be negative. Yet if the question is approached from a certain angle, then the yearning for a home garden that does possess a natural feel can be satisfied to a considerable extent.
By way of approach, it's important not to be led astray by the mistaken and misleading terms that are frequently bandied about today. The very idea of garden design for example, is often thought of as the antithesis of a "natural" garden. "Just plant whatever you like and let things grow naturally," is a common refrain. The implication is that randomness equals nature, while design equals artificiality. Yet there is virtually nothing random about a natural eco-system. In fact the exact opposite is the case, as the presence and population levels of the mass of organisms, is governed by the strict and precise laws of nature.
As in nature, the rules of design, not to be confused with personal taste, follow laws that have universal application, not because certain groups of people like architects, artists and fashion designers have decreed what's "in" and what's "out", but rather because of the known effect certain stimuli have on the human brain. A garden design that is unbalanced for instance will make people feel uncomfortable, as will one that is confused and unclear, due to the human craving to understand what's going on. Plants that are not in scale with the objects and spaces surrounding them, will feel out of place, while a sense of disharmony is liable to ensue from flower bed that is a "riot" of color. Why call bad taste nature? Why not call it bad taste!
Satisfying results can only be achieved in the long run if the garden is created by adhering to the rules of design. In small spaces, the closer one stays to correct geometrical proportions, the greater the likelihood of achieving the sense of calm and ordered harmony craved for by most garden owners. The question then arises as to which kind of geometry should underline the basic setting out of the site. The most formal and least natural effect is of course derived from strict symmetry, while asymmetrical balance can produce a clear, logical composition, which is also more stimulating and less contrived. Neither do geometrical shapes necessarily imply straight lines and right-angles. Curved lines are softer and more natural in feel than straight ones, but to maintain the underlying strength of the design, the radius of the curve should equal or be proportionate to other prominent lines in the garden.
Finally, it is the garden plants themselves and the way they are grown that determine whether the garden will feel natural or otherwise. Trees should be pruned in a way that goes along with the natural flow of the branches, whereas with shrubs, trimming and clipping should leave the plants with a rounded shape. It is instructive that in the Japanese horticultural tradition, where representing nature plays such a prominent part, shrubs and bushes are clipped to create a sense of order on the hand, but never topiaried into straight lines and right-angles on the other.

Five Top Tips for Getting a Good Nights Sleep
by Steven Bednarek

Sleep and rest are essential ingredients for a healthy existence, and are deemed by many experts to be just as important as balanced nutrition and taking regular exercise. People leading busy lifestyles often overlook the importance of getting a good night's sleep. The irony here is that taking the recommended eight hours sleep every night will actually better prepare people for the challenges thrown at them by their hectic lifestyle. In order to arrive at an atmosphere which will aid you in falling effortlessly to sleep it is suggested that you assess the following:
1. Arrangement of Bedroom Furniture This isn't about Feng-Shui, it is simply about practicality. A cluttered room with poor furniture arrangement can be devastating to ones hopes of getting a good nights rest, and this is primarily because untidiness clutters the mind. Anxiety (perhaps brought on by worrying when you will next have time to tidy your bedroom!) prevents your mind from resting, which is a vital ingredient for a good nights sleep. Keeping distracting items, such as televisions, computers and stereos in the bedroom is also not recommended due to the disruption they cause to somebody trying to sleep. Electrical items left on standby still emit light and even a slight humming noise which all contributes to keeping you awake!
2. Light Experts recommend a dark room to be much better for sleeping in, because our bodies naturally wake up in response to light. If your curtains or blind are permeable then it is more than likely that you will wake up long before the alarm clock goes off, particularly during the summer months. Nightlights and bedside lamps can trick the mind into thinking it is either time to wake up or it is not time to go to sleep!
3. Noise Noise can be extremely irritating when trying to get to sleep. Many people would assume earplugs are the solution to this problem however; this can be a dangerous tactic, particularly if you sleep alone, because you may not wake up should a smoke alarm go off. Double glazing is a very effective insulator of distracting noise caused by traffic, although it can be expensive. Hanging heavy curtains is a less costly solution to this problem or, alternatively, you could consider moving the bedroom to the back of the house.
4. Temperature. It is important to think about what you wear to bed. Experts recommend wearing natural products (such as cotton) because these are best for letting your body breathe which in turn will help keep your temperature down. The density of your duvet will also play an important role in ensuring you maintain a healthy while sleeping. You may find it is necessary to use different thicknesses of duvet depending on the time of year.
5. Mattress & Bed Base It is vital that you are comfortable lying on your mattress. If not, then it can become extremely irritating and it will prevent you sleeping. Mattresses have a shelf life and it is important to review the situation at least every 10 years. There should be adequate room for you to move around in your bed while you sleep, which is definitely worth bearing in mind if you share your bed with a partner.
